The Natural Explanation of Near Death Experiences
Some interesting new research about what happens in tramatized and near death situation to brain states and conscious experience:

Um, this is nonsense, as is the PNAS article. Electrical signals in the dying rat brain have as much to do with interpretation of the human near-death experience as dishwater has to do with Dom Perignon. Rodent experiments in neurophysiology have approximately zero translation to humans, and in fact are usually irreproducible in the lab. So this speculative rat paper is only useful (but probably not) if you want to guess what your dying rat is experiencing.
There are many explanations of NDE, just not one.
